For us younger generation or newbie's to the club, there was always
one question on my mind and this was, when was the club formed? and
more importantly who came up with the idea of PLYMOUTH HARRIERS ?,
and the person to thank for the excellent turtle is no other than
Stuart McGhee. So a little from the past....
October / November 2000 (written by Chris McGhee)
(abstract from the Plymouth Harriers Newsletter)
The Turtles becomes a Harrier
John McGhee was re-elected as Chairman in 1996, The same AGM saw a
proposal that the club either changed its name o amalgamate with
another club in Plymouth to form one large club. Opinion was
divided, for the Turtle has outgrown its shell, a change will
reflect the represent profile sponsorship would be more likely.
Against "plodder" is an identity - a name relate to its stands for
everything that is warm, friendly and non elitist, why change? we
have good runners.
On September 12th 1996, counted the votes and after approval from
BAF, Keyham Plodders became Plymouth Harriers. |
